THE 4.5TH
THE OUTSTANDING
STUDENT ARTIST AWARD
OF HONG KONG

The Hong Kong Outstanding Students Artist Award (OSA Award), established in 2015, is held every two years. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the originally planned the 4 edition in 2022 was canceled. We are now delighted to announce the resumption, the 4.5 edition of the Award is scheduled to be held in 2024.

VISION AND MISSION

The award is organised by a wide range of individuals in the art circle, with the support of experts in the fields of art education, design, art collecting and promotion. It aims to encourage secondary school students to express their creative abilities and artistic styles, such as exploration in themes, media and art history studies. The awards are presented to young artists in secondary school and emphasises the creative process, individuality and artistic potential. The jury is made up of art industry experts and university faculty.

The awards and the joint exhibition seek to go beyond the school system and allow students to learn from each other. All students are eligible to apply whether or not they are studying art-related courses. In addition, shortlisted student artists will collaborate with finalists of the previous year to create an exhibition, hence inspiring creativity and fostering the exchange of ideas.

CRITERIA & AWARDS

* The total number of recipients will depend on the standard of the participation student artists

PRIZES

“The Best Outstanding Student Artists” and “The Outstanding Student Art Leader” will receive full sponsorship  (max HK$25,000 for each student)  for a trip to “The 60th Venice Biennale” or an overseas international art exhibition, while all the finalists who would like to join the study trip together may also receive a maximum of HK$5,000 sponsorship.

Other finalists and the best outstanding students will be awarded the certificates and trophies respectively; while all the proposers of the winners of “The Best Outstanding Student Artist” and “The Best Student Leader” will receive HK$1,000 respectively.

* Arrangements of visits is determined depending on  the preference of the award recipients. If the visit is not taking place, other forms of funding will be offered.

  • Finalists must attend an interview session with the judges in late May to early June 2024. Absence will be considered as withdrawal of entry;

  • Finalists must take part in the Student Artists Exhibition in August 2024, including setup, opening ceremony and dismantling;

REVIEW PROCESS

1.Shortlisting

Around 15 student artists will be short-listed. Results will be emailed to the students in early May 2024.

2.Interview

The jury will meet with the short-listed student artists in late May to early June 2024, and select “The Best Outstanding Student Artists” and “The Outstanding Student Art Leader”. During interview, student artists can display their authentic artworks and explain their ideas. Please note that absence for the interview will be considered as withdrawal of entry.

Unlike many existing student art awards that give awards based on one particular artwork submission, the OSA Award
reviews portfolios of the applicants and select the outstanding entries that reflect the students’ ability, style and creative process as artists.

The Award places emphasis on the future development of student artists and has therefore organised the Hong Kong Outstanding Student Artists Award Alumni,comprising of past winners. It endeavours to build a network that offers support to each other in their artistic development. On the other hand, we hope to continue to support the OSA Award by participating in and organising different kinds of art activities that encourages exchanges and interactions. We aspire to bring together members who are able to stand alone and excel at art, design, culture and related fields in the future, pass on and nurture the next generation of emerging young artists that are creative and dare to explore.
